11 February | Vizinho Vinhateiro Producer Talk & Tasting

On February 11, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, immerse yourself in the captivating world of Vizinho Vinhateiro.

Paul Chevreux and Charlotte Hugel, a dedicated couple from Franche-Comté and Alsace, respectively, established their winery in 2018 after years of meticulous research in the Dão region. They began marketing their small production from the 2021 vintage. Their vines are cultivated following organic production rules, although not officially labeled. They make some of their own preparations, like chamomile tea and fermented nettle extract, to combat drought. Bonita, their mare, assists with the tillage through animal traction.

In the cellar, their white wines ferment in used barrels after a vertical press, while the claret undergoes a 24-hour maceration and crushing before fermenting in barrels. Their red wines follow a more traditional vinification process, with barreling after fermentation. The use of sulfur is kept to a minimum but reasonable according to their conditions, and no other inputs are used.

The evening will feature a tasting of the following seven wines:

  • Clarete 2023: Experience the vibrancy of this light and refreshing wine, with a beautiful balance of acidity and fruitiness, making it a perfect start to the tasting.
  • Clarete Vinhateiro 2022: A delightful follow-up to the 2023 vintage, this wine offers a slightly more mature flavor profile, showcasing the subtle differences between the two years.
  • Tinto 2023: This red wine is rich and full-bodied, with deep, complex flavors that highlight the exceptional quality of their grapes.
  • Branco 2022: A fresh and lively white wine that combines crisp acidity with a bouquet of floral and citrus notes, perfect for pairing with a variety of dishes.
  • Agua pé/piquette: A unique and traditional beverage made from the second pressing of grape pomace, offering a light and refreshing option with lower alcohol content.
  • Lagar 2023 (with sulfur): This version of Lagar 2023 is a blend of 10 barrels with a tiny addition of sulfur at bottling, resulting in a well-rounded and harmonious wine.
  • Lagar 2023 (without sulfur): A distinctive single-barrel wine, bottled without any sulfur, allowing the true expression of the grapes and terroir to shine through.

For just 10€, attendees will enjoy a curated tasting of their exquisite wines, each reflecting the winery's commitment to quality and tradition. Whether you’re a wine enthusiast or a curious beginner, this event promises to be both educational and delightful.

WE BELIEVE IN THE STORIES BEHIND THE WINE

Every wine carries a unique story, a reason for its existence. At theLAB we believe that telling these stories helps you connect with the wine, the history, the people and their culture. Stories are the backbone of life! Stories are what give wines life. Our site is an evolution and we will continue to fill in more stories at we grow and evolve.

With this in mind we invite wine producers (and not only) who are devoted to sustainability and are making a positive impact on the environment. These events are more than just an opportunity to taste incredible wines. It´s also supporting the producers who are making the world a better place.
