Suertes Cool is a red wine produced by Suertes del Marqués, a winery located in the Valle de la Orotava on the northern side of Tenerife, Canary Islands. Established in 2006, the winery focuses on indigenous grape varietals and traditional viticulture methods, emphasizing the unique characteristics of the region's volcanic soils.
The primary grape used in Suertes Cool is Listán Negro, which is complemented by other local varieties such as Tintilla, Vijariego Negro, and Baboso Negro. The vineyards are cultivated using a traditional vine training method known as cordon trenzado, where the branches are woven together, allowing for optimal exposure to sunlight and air circulation. This technique is particularly beneficial in the region's varied altitudes, ranging from 300 to 750 meters above sea level, which contributes to the complexity of the wines.
Production practices at Suertes del Marqués are notably eco-friendly, utilizing wild yeasts for fermentation and minimizing the use of sulfites. The wine is typically fermented in uncoated concrete vats, with aging occurring in small French oak foudres. The winery's commitment to quality and sustainability is reflected in its careful vineyard management and the use of biodynamic principles, ensuring that the wines capture the distinctive terroir of the Canary Islands while maintaining a focus on purity and expression.
