Julia Kemper

The Melo family have grown grapes in the Dão region of Portugal for several generations, but it wasn’t until 2008 that the first wines from the family were released, under the Julia Kemper label. Before that, they were making wine to be enjoyed by friends and family, and participating in contests with it as a hobby. Back in 2000, Julia de Melo Kemper, a Lisbon-based lawyer, was called back to her family vineyards for her father’s inheritance. She refused it for a few years but by 2003, she accepted the challenge and in her own words "started one of the most beautiful experiences that one can have". As a way to connect with nature, Julia opted for organic and biodynamic farming, deriving from Robert Steiner’s philosophy. By 2008 she released her first vintage, and within the following decade, her wines gained recognition around the globe, proving that her wines are delicious, sustainable wines that are a must try with genuine flavor.
