Conceito is proof that a driven and passionate person can take the spotlight in the wine industry. Rita Ferreira Marques has been in the Douro wine game for such a long time that she has witnessed the transformation of it to its current stage. When she was younger, her family was selling grapes. Meanwhile she was running through her education in Bordeaux, California, New Zealand and South Africa. When she returned home, her mother made an offer for her to make her own wine, instead of selling the grapes. Rita not just made wines, she created a brand and a concept; Conceito, which started out in 2005. Since then, her goal was to make lighter styles of wines that people from all around the world would appreciate. After its foundation, in just a few years Conceito wines earned an aura of quality that makes people from all around the world love its wines since %95 of her wines are exported to 40 different countries. Rita transformed from a winemaker to a leader which shows in her character. She morphed modern and ancient techniques, and makes authentic wines with old vines. She doesn't stop there; when winter settles in Douro, like a nomad winemaker, she makes her way to South Africa, to create a Bordeaux blend to sell under the Conceito brand. Rita is undoubtedly a prime example of what assertive and determined people can do within the wine industry.
