Conceito's Brut Nature Espumante is a unique sparkling wine that defies expectations. Rather than relying on traditional Douro grape varieties, it's crafted entirely from Grüner Veltliner, an Austrian grape that has found a surprising and successful home in the Douro Valley.

The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and undergo a first fermentation in used French oak barrels. This unusual choice adds complexity and depth to the wine, setting it apart from many other sparkling wines. After the first fermentation, the wine is bottled for a second fermentation in the bottle, the traditional method for producing sparkling wine. This process, known as the méthode traditionnelle, involves adding a small amount of sugar and yeast to the bottle, which triggers a second fermentation and creates characteristic bubbles.

The wine is then aged on its lees for an extended period, typically around 30 months. This aging process contributes to the wine's complexity and finesse as the yeast cells release enzymes that break down the sugars and proteins in the wine, creating a richer and more flavorful beverage. The wine is disgorged and finished without the addition of dosage, resulting in a truly Brut Nature style with no added sugar.

The resulting wine is a refreshing, elegant sparkling wine with a fine, persistent bead. It offers aromas of citrus fruits, green apple, and a touch of spice, with a crisp and creamy palate. The acidity is well-balanced, providing a refreshing counterpoint to the wine's richness.
