Viña Zorzal is a family-run winery located in the Ribera Baja subzone of Navarra, Spain, with deep roots in the region’s winemaking tradition. It was founded in 1989 by Antonio Sanz under the name Vinícola Corellana, and in 2007, his three sons—Iñaki, Mikel, and Xabi Sanz—took over the reins, ushering in a new era focused on quality and authenticity. They renamed the winery after their father’s original young wine brand, Viña Zorzal, and shifted the emphasis from volume production to crafting expressive wines from native grape varieties, particularly Garnacha and Graciano. Their vineyards are spread across villages like Corella, Cintruénigo, and Fitero, with a special focus on old bush vines and single-parcel selections.
The winemaking team is led by the Sanz brothers, with Iñaki managing operations, Mikel overseeing viticulture, and Xabi handling branding and international outreach. They also collaborate with respected winemaker Jorge Navascués, a Garnacha specialist from Aragón, who consults on various projects. Viña Zorzal has become known for its innovative partnerships, including collaborations with international producers like Matías Michelini from Argentina and Dirk Niepoort from Portugal, resulting in unique wines such as NatCool Graciano and the Lecciones de Vuelo series.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of Viña Zorzal’s philosophy. The winery practices organic viticulture, avoids tilling the soil, and uses native ground cover and compost to enrich the land. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous, racking is minimized, and wines are neither filtered nor fined. Sulfite use is kept to a minimum, and all processes are carried out manually. Their commitment to environmental stewardship extends beyond viticulture; they are actively involved in the Asociación de Paisajes de Navarra, advocating for responsible development of renewable energy infrastructure to protect biodiversity and vineyard landscapes.
