A field blend white wine crafted from over 100-year-old vines rooted in the rugged, quartz- and mica-rich granite and schist soils of Trás-os-Montes. Sourced from five distinct parcels in the village of Sendim, the grapes include a mix of traditional varieties such as Malvasia, Verdelho, Bastardo Branco, Posto Branco, Formosa, and Dona Branca, among others—some so rare they remain unidentified. Grown organically and harvested by hand into small 20kg boxes, the fruit undergoes a 24-hour pre-fermentation maceration before being foot-trodden with stems in a granite lagar. Fermentation is spontaneous, driven by indigenous yeasts, and takes place in both stainless steel and seasoned French oak barrels. The wine completes malolactic fermentation and is aged with 70% in barrels used three to six times and 30% in steel.

On the palate, Picotes Branco is structured and mineral-driven, with crystalline freshness and a textured mouthfeel that reflects its high-altitude origins. Aromas of dried pineapple, white fruit, and subtle spice unfold gently, while the taste reveals layers of stony austerity, a hint of bready richness, and a clean, lingering finish.

Picotes Wines, a distinguished wine producer from the Trás-os-Montes region of Portugal, has a rich history deeply rooted in family tradition and ancestral winemaking methods. The winery's origins trace back to 1920 with great-grandfather Manuel, whose passion for viticulture laid the foundation for future generations. The Trás-os-Montes region, where Picotes Wines is located, is known for its unique terroir and climate, which contribute to the distinct characteristics of its wines. The region's historical significance in Portuguese viticulture is well-documented, with wine production in Portugal dating back to at least 2000 BC, influenced by various ancient civilizations including the Tartessians, Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans.

Carla and António Picotês, the current winemakers, are committed to sustainable practices in their wine production. They emphasize the use of natural methods and minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery, which aligns with a broader movement towards sustainability in the wine industry. This approach not only preserves the environment but also enhances the authenticity and quality of their wines.
