Maynard's Crusted Port, bottled in October 2019, is a treat for any port enthusiast, offering a delicious journey through time. Unlike a typical ruby port, this isn't meant for immediate consumption. Instead, it's aged in large oak casks for several years, allowing it to develop a complex character. This is still a relatively young Crusted Port, aged 4-6 years before bottling. This aging period softens the tannins, the natural grape compounds that can cause astringency in young ports, resulting in a smoother, more approachable drink.

While the exact profile might vary slightly from bottle to bottle, Maynard's Crusted Ports are generally known for their rich and layered taste. Expect a core of ripe red and black fruit flavors like plum, currant, and blackberry, likely accompanied by hints of chocolate, spice, and perhaps even nuttiness. Some Crusted Ports can even develop hints of honey or caramel with age. The time spent in oak casks also contributes to the port's color, giving it a beautiful brownish-red hue.

The brand is known for its commitment to traditional winemaking techniques, which ensures that the wines reflect the unique terroir of the Douro Valley.
