Moreish's 2022 Monte Ilha Branco is a pure expression of the Arinto grape variety, sourced from vineyards in the Dão region. Grown on granite soils, these grapes were fermented spontaneously in a traditional bota barrel, a large, porous vessel used in southern Spain. The bota is over 60 years old and was once used by the esteemed fino producer Alvear in the Montilla-Moriles region.

During the 17-month aging process, the wine was covered with a layer of fino flor yeast, a unique biological element that contributes to the wine's oxidative character. The wine was bottled without any fining or filtration, preserving its natural texture and complexity. This meticulous winemaking approach results in a distinctive and terroir-driven white wine that showcases the unique qualities of Arinto and the Dão region.

Moreish

Tucked away in the picturesque Bairrada region, known for its sparkling wines, lies the esteemed Moreish winery. Under the visionary leadership of winemaker Luís Lopes, Moreish has emerged as a modern force in Portuguese viticulture, challenging traditional conventions and crafting exceptional wines that showcase the region's unique terroir.

Lopes, a passionate advocate for Bairrada's indigenous grape varieties, has focused on reviving forgotten varietals and showcasing their potential. The winery's vineyards are planted with diverse grapes, including Baga, Alvarelhão, and Esgalhão. These grapes, when nurtured in Bairrada's distinctive limestone soils and Atlantic influence, develop distinctive flavors and aromas that are hallmarks of Moreish's wines.

One of Moreish's notable styles is the Baga Reserva, a red wine that showcases the power and elegance of the Baga grape. With its deep color, rich tannins, and dark fruit notes, the Baga Reserva is a complex and age-worthy wine. Another standout is the Alvarelhão Branco, a white wine with a refreshing balance of acidity and fruitiness. With its citrusy aromas and crisp palate, the Alvarelhão Branco is a versatile wine that pairs well with a variety of dishes.

Moreish is committed to sustainable winemaking practices. The winery employs organic farming methods, minimizing chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Additionally, Moreish prioritizes water conservation and energy efficiency, ensuring that its operations have a minimal impact on the environment. By embracing sustainable practices, Moreish is not only producing high-quality wines but also contributing to the preservation of the Bairrada region's natural beauty.
