Niepoort - 2015 - Vintage Port Bioma VV

Crafted with meticulous care, this vintage Port is a testament to traditional methods. Whole grape bunches are foot-trodden at Niepoort's facility in Vale de Mendiz, initiating the journey. After fortification, the wine settles over winter before being transferred to Quinta de Nápoles' cool cellars in spring. There, it rests in pipas, traditional 550L casks, forgoing the typical aging in large vats of Gaia. By bottling Bioma "Vinha Velha" in its third year, Niepoort achieves exceptional complexity. The result? A concentrated, near-black purple wine. The enticing nose offers black pepper, spice, and aromas of dark plums and blackberries. The initial palate is surprisingly fresh, brimming with acidity and dark fruit expression. However, a bold tannic structure emerges on the mid-palate and carries through the finish, where the sweetness and fruit yield to the grip of tannins. This is a vintage Port built for long-term cellaring, promising continued development over time.
