Mother Nature threw Quinta da Lomba a curveball in 2020. A harsh winter with excessive rain was followed by a nonexistent spring and a mild summer punctuated by heat spikes. This challenging year made disease control and ripening difficult. However, meticulous viticulture ensured a successful harvest from late August to late September. While demanding, the vintage yielded wines with beautiful acidity and excellent aging potential. Following tradition, Quinta da Lomba ferments their wines in granite lagars and matures them in seasoned wooden barrels. The resulting 2020 red boasts a deep color with violet highlights. The nose is a captivating blend of subtle violets, raspberries, fresh figs, and hints of herbs and spices. Earthy notes emerge with whispers of tobacco and balsamic nuances. The palate is both delicate and complex, offering a refined structure and light, yet well-integrated tannins. The wine concludes with a lengthy and balanced finish where the region's characteristic acidity shines through.
