This Douro red is a blend of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Touriga Franca, all native Portuguese grapes. The vines, situated at 550-700 meters above sea level in Ervedosa do Douro, are approximately 20 years old and farmed using biodynamic practices. Consistent with Douro tradition, the vineyard uses a field blend on schist soils. With a beautiful raspberry color, and an enticing nose dominated by red fruits, with strawberries, raspberries, and gooseberries, this "living wine" is said to evolve in the glass, offering a dynamic aromatic experience.

Quinta do Javali

Quinta do Javali is a historic, family-run estate tucked away on the steep, breathtaking slopes of the Douro Valley. With a rich winemaking heritage tracing its roots back to the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, when Port wine production began, the estate is deeply intertwined with regional tradition. Today, the Mendes family carries this profound legacy forward. They manage a boutique property where meticulous attention to detail defines every step of production, ensuring that their deep respect for the past seamlessly informs modern innovation.

Environmental responsibility and biodiversity are the core pillars of the farming philosophy at Quinta do Javali. Operating as a modest estate with only eighteen hectares dedicated to vineyards, the family implements rigorous organic and biodynamic agricultural practices. The vines thrive on classic Douro schistose soils along south-facing slopes, receiving optimal sun exposure that naturally concentrates the fruit. By avoiding synthetic chemicals, adopting strict water-conservation practices, and fostering a natural ecosystem within the vineyards, the estate ensures the long-term health of the land while capturing the purest possible expression of its unique terroir.

While the estate honors its historical roots by crafting select, high-quality Port wines, Quinta do Javali primarily focuses its creative energy on producing exceptional DOC Douro table wines. The winemaking style is defined by a strict philosophy of minimal intervention in the cellar, allowing the natural character of native Douro grape varieties like Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Cão to take center stage. This patient, hands-off approach results in table wines that are highly acclaimed for their dryness, impressive density, and robust, full-bodied character, appealing directly to those who appreciate authentic, unpolished terroir expressions.

Beyond their exceptional viticulture, the family uses the estate's diverse landscape to produce premium extra-virgin olive oil from local olive varietals. Harvested by hand at peak ripeness, this oil reflects the same uncompromising standard of quality as their winemaking, boasting intense fruity notes with a perfect balance of green and ripe olive profiles. By diversifying their agriculture with sustainable olive groves, Quinta do Javali showcases the true versatility of the Douro Valley, making the estate a benchmark for independent, holistically minded Portuguese production.
