Uivo's Tinta Francisca is a pure expression of a rare grape variety. Sourced from naturally farmed vineyards perched at 600 meters above sea level in Alijó, Portugal, this wine showcases the unique character of the region's schist and granite soils. Hand-harvested Tinta Francisca grapes, a native treasure, undergo a gentle winemaking process.

Minimal intervention in the cellar allows the fruit to shine. After a short maceration in traditional "lagares" (open-top fermentation tanks), the wine ages for twelve months in a blend of French and chestnut oak barrels. This balanced approach imparts structure and complexity without overshadowing the grape's natural personality.

Bottled in February 2022, Uivo's Tinta Francisca offers a glimpse into the heart of the Douro Valley. Only 1,250 bottles were produced in the 2020 vintage.

Uivo

Meet Tiago Sampaio, the winemaker behind Olho no Pé and Folias de Baco, now bottling his exceptional blends as Uivo. Grown at elevations up to 700m, his wines boast distinctive textures and flavors. Don't miss his captivating pét-nats and the refreshing, floral aroma of Moscatel Gallego grapes. With a PhD in viticulture and oenology from Oregon, Tiago embraces a natural winemaking approach – no added yeast, no filtration, and no fining at bottling. He operates from the old co-op winery building in Sanfins do Douro, showcasing antique talhas gifted by Vasco Croft. Follow Tiago's wine adventures by keeping an eye on the label.
