Hand-harvested Arinto and Fernão Pires grapes, grown on old vines for over 50 years, star in this crisp white wine. Fermented and aged in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats (14°C) with periodic stirring (bâtonnage), the wine displays a bright citrus color. Expect a captivating bouquet of mineral and forest aromas and a fresh, mineral-driven taste with vibrant acidity. For optimal enjoyment, store the bottle horizontally away from light and serve chilled between 10-12°C. Herdade do Cebolal's white wine boasts a citrusy and mineral character, reflecting its origins on the Setúbal Peninsula near the Atlantic Ocean.

Herdade do Cebolal

Nestled in the Alentejo Coast village of Vale das Éguas, Herdade do Cebolal is a family-run winery steeped in tradition. Since 1890, the estate has been passed down through generations, with Isabel and her son Luís currently at the helm (4th and 5th generation). Their philosophy centers on knowledge passed down through the years, respect for the land, and minimal intervention winemaking.

The winery encompasses 85 hectares, with 20 hectares dedicated to vineyards, and 65 hectares are forested areas. Recognizing the importance of environmental responsibility, they've embarked on a regeneration project, converting their first 7 hectares to Syntropic Agriculture, a method that mimics natural ecosystems.

Over the past few years, Herdade do Cebolal has embraced a sustainable approach, incorporating agroforestry, permaculture, and low-chemical intervention techniques. These practices not only protect the surrounding habitat and biodiversity but contribute to the overall health of their community.

Their vineyards boast a blend of native and international grape varieties, some reaching 80 years old. Aware of the challenges posed by global warming, they've reviewed their viticulture practices in recent years. A key strategy involves creating a symbiotic relationship between different crops, fostering a natural balance and minimizing the need for chemical intervention.

  • This commitment to sustainable viticulture aims to enrich the soil and manage water resources more effectively. Ultimately, by respecting the terroir, Herdade do Cebolal strives to produce wines that authentically express the character of their grape varieties.
