This red wine originates from a deep-seated motivation to safeguard and celebrate a unique viticultural heritage, driven by a commitment to expressing the pure terroir of the Bairrada region. The "Vinha da Adega" vineyard, characterized by its red clay and quartzite soils under an Atlantic climate, is the source of the Field Blend of grape varieties that form the essence of this wine. The quartzite soil is specifically noted for imparting a distinctive and unusual identity to the resulting wine. Viticulture at Prior Lucas emphasizes a philosophy of minimal intervention, prioritizing the health and vitality of the vineyard to allow the terroir to speak authentically through the grapes. Winemaking, overseen by Rui Lucas, involves total destemming followed by fermentation in concrete tanks, a choice that often favors the preservation of fresh fruit character and terroir expression. The aging process is notably conducted for 20 months in concrete tanks, further supporting the aim of highlighting the wine's inherent qualities before a final three months of bottle maturation. This careful approach results in a wine displaying a ruby hue. On the nose, Habemus R presents an aromatic profile of red fruit that gracefully evolves to reveal notes of wet earth, limestone, and coffee, suggesting a complex interplay of fruit and tertiary characteristics. The palate is defined by polished and silky tannins, contributing to a smooth and elegant texture.
