A complex skin-contact white—often referred to as an orange wine—that draws its depth and character from the old-vine field blends of the Vinho Verde region, specifically the lower Tâmega sub-zone. The name Overdub is a music production term that aptly describes the multi-layered depth of this wine, which is crafted primarily from the indigenous white varieties Arinto (known locally as Pedernã) and Azal, sourced from vineyards over eighty years old. The winemaking process is fiercely traditional, beginning with a notable eight days of maceration where the grape skins and juice are kept in contact in the 250-year-old granite lagares. This technique extracts color, texture, and phenolics, fundamentally shifting the wine's structure away from a typical light Vinho Verde. Following this spontaneous fermentation in the lagares, the wine is transferred to old cement tanks for approximately nine months to complete its transformation and age. The final product is a testament to minimal intervention: it is unfiltered, unfined, and features no added sulfur, relying on the integrity of the old-vine fruit and the early oxidative exposure to achieve stability.
This deliberate production results in a white wine of significant depth and texture. Due to the extended skin contact, the Overdub Branco typically displays a rich, hazy, soft orange or deep golden hue. The nose is intense and layered, presenting an aromatic, savory, and fruit-forward profile, featuring notes of apricot, orange peel, honey, and white flowers, alongside a subtle, engaging oxidative nuance. The texture is the most defining characteristic on the palate: it is fuller-bodied and silky, a striking contrast to the region’s common light whites. The subtle presence of extremely light tannin from the maceration adds structure and length, while the vibrant acidity characteristic of the Arinto and Azal grapes ensures the wine remains balanced and refreshing despite its depth and richness. The overall impression is a complex, expressive, and dry wine with a deep taste that is authentic to its terroir and remarkably appealing to an educated wine drinker.
