A unique red wine produced in Portugal by winemaker Emanuel Frutuoso. The wine is made from organically grown grapes, primarily consisting of the Tinta Roriz variety. The grapes are sourced from a vineyard with clay-limestone soil in Arruda dos Vinhos.

The winemaking process involves partial destemming, followed by autonomous fermentation without temperature control. The wine then undergoes aging for 14 months in 600-liter barrels and an additional year in the bottle. This natural vinification approach results in a wine that is not stabilized or filtered.

Safado Tinto is described as wild, challenging, irreverent, and young, with an interesting plant side. The wine is known for its unique character and unconventional style, reflecting the passion and expertise of winemaker Emanuel Frutuoso.

Safado

Safado is a distinguished wine producer located in the Lisbon region of Portugal, known for its commitment to natural winemaking and sustainable practices. The winery is helmed by Emanuel Frutuoso, a natural winemaker who emphasizes minimal intervention techniques, allowing the unique terroir of the region to shine through in each bottle.

In terms of viticulture, Safado employs organic farming methods, focusing on biodiversity and soil health to cultivate their vineyards. This approach not only enhances the quality of the grapes but also promotes environmental sustainability. The winery's practices include using cover crops to prevent erosion and improve soil fertility, as well as natural pest control methods to reduce the reliance on synthetic chemicals.

Safado produces a range of wines, including red, white, and rosé varieties, each reflecting the distinct characteristics of the Lisbon terroir. The winemaking philosophy prioritizes the expression of the grapes' natural flavors, with a focus on low sulfites and spontaneous fermentation, which further aligns with their sustainable ethos. Through these practices, Safado not only contributes to the rich wine culture of Portugal but also champions a more environmentally friendly approach to viticulture.
