Tomatin's Port Edition, the inaugural release in their Portuguese Collection, presents a compelling narrative of cask influence, where the rich character of Tawny Port casks artfully transforms Highland single malt whisky. This single malt Scotch whisky undergoes an initial maturation of over eight years in traditional oak casks, laying the foundation for its signature fruity and malty profile. Subsequently, it is transferred to Tawny Port casks for an extended seven-year finishing period, a prolonged interaction that imparts a unique and complex flavor profile. This extended maturation in the Port cask is a defining characteristic, infusing the whisky with a distinctive richness and a sweet, vinous depth.

On the nose, the Port Edition offers an enticing and decadent aroma of Black Forest gateau, a rich and layered sweetness that immediately captures the senses. Warm spices gradually evolve, creating fresh summer fruit notes and a dynamic and engaging bouquet. The palate is rich and decadent, mirroring the nose with ripe blackberries, raspberries, and cherries, a symphony of dark fruit flavors. As the whisky unfolds, sweeter notes of peach and apricot emerge, balancing the darker fruitiness and adding a layer of complexity. The Tawny Port cask influence is evident in the depth and richness of these flavors, adding a vinous sweetness and a subtle spice. The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering hints of the Port cask influence, leaving a warm and memorable impression. Bottled at 46% ABV, the Port Edition is a bold and flavorful whisky, showcasing the versatility of Scotch whisky and the transformative magic of cask maturation. This expression offers a unique and compelling drinking experience, highlighting the harmonious interplay between Highland single malt and the nuanced sweetness of Tawny Port.
