Vale da Capucha

Vale da Capucha is a distinguished wine producer located in the Lisbon region of Portugal, specifically based in Quinta de S. José, Carvalhal, Torres Vedras. This family-owned business has a rich history spanning five generations, with its roots deeply embedded in the tradition of winemaking. The current winemaker, Pedro Marques, is a prominent figure in the Portuguese wine industry and represents the fifth generation of his family to engage in this craft.

Pedro Marques took over the family business and began a transformative journey in 2007. His approach was influenced by his travels across Portugal and other cooler-climate wine regions, which inspired him to implement significant changes at Vale da Capucha. Under his leadership, the vineyard has embraced organic farming practices, focusing on sustainable viticulture. The vineyards are located approximately eight kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, benefiting from the maritime climate that contributes to the unique characteristics of their wines.

The wines produced at Vale da Capucha are known for their high natural acidity, particularly the Arinto variety, which is celebrated for its austere, limestone, mineral, and citrus notes. This commitment to organic and sustainable practices not only reflects a respect for the environment but also enhances the quality and authenticity of their wines. Pedro Marques' dedication to these principles has positioned Vale da Capucha as a benchmark of success in the region, maintaining a legacy that spans over two centuries while adapting to modern sustainable practices.
