Casa de Mouraz's Private Selection Tinto 2016 is a testament to the exceptional viticulture practiced in the Douro Valley. Sourced from carefully tended vineyards situated on steep slopes, the grapes for this wine benefit from the region's unique terroir, which is characterized by its schist soils and microclimate. The blend comprises indigenous grape varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cão, each contributing distinct characteristics to the final product. The grapes are meticulously harvested by hand, ensuring optimal ripeness and preserving their delicate flavors. Traditional winemaking techniques are employed in the cellar, with natural fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by a long maceration of 50% of the wine aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels, where it develops complexity and character. The Private Selection Tinto 2016 is a wine that showcases the best of the Douro Valley, offering a harmonious blend of fruit, spice, and structure.

Casa de Mouraz

Antonio Lopes Ribiero and Sara Dionisio converted their ancestral vines into the first certified organic vineyard in the Dão in 2000, and have since converted entirely to biodynamic farming. Casa de Mouraz farms 13 ha. of native grapes which are divided into 10 parcels at an altitude of 140 to 400 meters and surrounded by chestnut, oak, and pine trees. The parcels have been proven to be the same as they were in the 12th century when the Cister monks built the monastery of St. Pedro de Mouraz and its surrounding vineyards! Gentle pressings, natural yeast starters, long lees contact in the wine and minimal handling are the time-honored practices.
