Casa de Mouraz's Elfa 2017 is a testament to the diversity and complexity of the Dão region. This wine is a blend of nearly 30 indigenous grape varieties, each contributing its unique character to the final product.

Sourced from a venerable, 80-year-old vineyard with granite soil, the grapes for Elfa are hand-harvested at peak ripeness. The wine undergoes co-fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by a prolonged maceration to extract maximum color, flavor, and tannin. The resulting wine is then aged in stainless steel for two years, preserving its vibrant fruitiness and freshness.

The 2017 Elfa is a captivating blend of red and black fruits with spice and earth notes. The palate is medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, elegant finish. This wine is a true expression of the Dão terroir and a must-try for enthusiasts seeking unique and authentic wines.

Casa de Mouraz

Antonio Lopes Ribiero and Sara Dionisio converted their ancestral vines into the first certified organic vineyard in the Dão in 2000, and have since converted entirely to biodynamic farming. Casa de Mouraz farms 13 ha. of native grapes which are divided into 10 parcels at an altitude of 140 to 400 meters and surrounded by chestnut, oak, and pine trees. The parcels have been proven to be the same as they were in the 12th century when the Cister monks built the monastery of St. Pedro de Mouraz and its surrounding vineyards! Gentle pressings, natural yeast starters, long lees contact in the wine and minimal handling are the time-honored practices.
