A light-bodied, highly refreshing red wine from the Vinho Verde region, crafted to showcase the vibrant potential of the native Espadeiro grape.

The wine is sourced from organically and biodynamically farmed, 20-year-old vines in Felgueiras, near the Tâmega River. The vinification is a testament to the project’s low-intervention philosophy: the grapes are destemmed, and then foot-trodden in large, century-old terracotta talhas (amphoras). As a natural stabilizer in lieu of heavy sulfur additions, ground chestnut flower is added to the mass before spontaneous fermentation begins. The wine typically undergoes a one-month fermentation followed by extended maceration in the talhas, which can last several months to build structure gently. It is then racked to stainless steel tanks for a brief aging period before being bottled unfiltered, with only a minimal sulfur addition. This unique process yields a fragrant and floral aromatic profile dominated by bright, candied red fruits like strawberry, tart cherry, and raspberry, often displaying a subtle smoky minerality and hints of baking spice.

The Duplo is deliberately chillable and crushable on the palate, defined by its high, juicy acidity and light body. Flavors of matted red fruits are prominent, while a pleasingly pithy, grippy finish from the talha contact provides structure. The result is a savory, fresh, and slightly wild red that is perfectly suited for warmer weather and light cuisine.

Bojo do Luar

The Bojo do Luar project came to life during a trip Savio Soares made to vineyards near the Tamego River. Here he met Fernando Paiva, an innovative biodynamic wine producer making wines with minimal sulfites and adding ground chestnut flowers to tanks before fermentation. With Fernando's winemaking experience and openness to experiment using a non-intervention approach in the cellar, the Bojo do Luar wines quickly took shape. Not only were the results promising, but the wines easily became popular. The region has a mostly cool temperate climate throughout Spring, followed by hot days and cool nights until the September harvest. Each variety is vinified separately with minimal intervention.
