A deeply non-interventionist expression of pure Loureiro from the Vinho Verde region, a wine whose naming convention is inspired by the modest thirty-eight-box capacity of the small pickup truck used to transport the grapes to the cellar.
This 100% Loureiro is farmed organically and biodynamically in granitic soils near the Tâmega river. The production follows the pétillant naturel or méthode ancestrale process, which begins with the hand-harvested grapes being destemmed and moved into traditional 1,100-liter talhas, or amphoras, where they undergo an extended period of pellicular maceration, often lasting several weeks at cool temperatures. A distinctive and stabilizing element in the Bojo do Luar philosophy is adding a small amount of ground chestnut flowers to the mass before the indigenous yeast fermentation begins spontaneously. Before the primary fermentation is fully complete, with a calculated level of residual sugar remaining, the wine is pressed and bottled unfiltered and, notably for this cuvée, typically with no added sulphur dioxide, allowing the fermentation to complete in the bottle to create the gentle effervescence characteristic of a Pet-Nat.
On the palate, this cloudy, unfiltered presentation delivers a vibrant profile, marked by Loureiro's inherent high acidity and aromatic intensity, translating to bright, refreshing notes of grapefruit, sour pineapple, and lemon-lime citrus, often underscored by a subtle minerality and a hint of creamy texture from the lees, making it a supremely refreshing and intellectually engaging sparkling wine.
