A definitive modern expression of the traditional Ruby style, distinguished by its adherence to organic viticulture at Quinta da Trovisca in the Douro Valley. Production begins with a blend of classic Douro red varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz, hand-harvested from organically certified, dry-farmed vines often planted on traditional vertical terraces to maximize sun exposure and fruit concentration. Following full destemming, the must undergoes slow, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, driven by native yeasts. The key to its character, like all Port, is fortification, where the fermentation is abruptly halted with the addition of grape spirit to preserve natural sweetness and achieve the requisite alcohol level. Diverging from the Tawny style, this Ruby Reserve is aged for an average of approximately three years primarily in stainless steel tanks, thus severely limiting oxidative contact to deliberately preserve the youthful, vibrant, and fruit-driven character of the wine, before undergoing a light pad filtration before bottling. In the glass, this results in a Port of deep, inky dark magenta color with an opaque core and a purple rim. The nose is immediately expressive, offering pure, bright aromas of purple and black berries, such as blackcurrant and stewed plums, often complemented by a subtle floral lift and a hint of dark chocolate. The palate delivers a soft, luscious, and full-bodied entry, brimming with rich, jammy fruit flavors like blueberry pie filling and sweet raspberry sauce, all well-supported by a fine tannic structure and a refreshing, high acidity that maintains balance against the residual sugar, culminating in a lingering finish marked by notes of spice and dark cocoa.
